Chitkara University is recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC), a statutory body of the Government of India established for the coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education in India.

In the year 2010, Chitkara University was established by the Punjab State Legislature under, “The Chitkara University Act”. Chitkara University is a Government-Recognized University with the right to confer degrees as per the Sections 2(f) and 22(1) of the UGC Act, 1956.

Chitkara University has been awarded the rating of A+ by the prestigious National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), which places it among the 5% of higher education institutions (HEIs) in India to be granted such a coveted grade. The University scored a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.26 on a 4-point scale.

Chitkara University has achieved an impressive ranking in the recently announced QS Asia University Rankings 2023: Southern Asia. The university secured the 145th position in this prestigious ranking, which was unveiled at the QS Higher Education Summit-APAC 2022 held in Jakarta, Indonesia.

The ranking is based on various parameters that evaluate the university's performance across multiple dimensions. Chitkara University received commendable scores in several categories, including a score of 7.3 in academic reputation, 12.5 in employer reputation, 18 in faculty-student ratio, 5.6 in papers per faculty, 1.3 in citations per paper, 8.8 in international faculty, 11.6 in international students, 1 in faculty staff with Ph.D., 2.8 in international research network, 2.2 in inbound exchange, and 6.9 in outbound exchange.

It's worth noting that the QS University Rankings is an esteemed publication of university rankings, approved by the International Ranking Expert Group (IREG). It is widely recognized
as one of the most influential university rankings worldwide. The rankings are meticulously crafted, considering various factors such as academic reputation, employer reputation,
faculty-to-student ratio, international faculty, and students, among other performance metrics.

The methodology employed for these rankings incorporates indicators developed in consultation with regional experts and stakeholders. It aims to reflect the key priorities for universities in Asia. Chitkara University's remarkable achievement in securing a prominent position in the QS Asia University Rankings 2023: Southern Asia is a testament to the concerted and consistent efforts of the staff and students in upholding educational excellence and meeting global standards.

Chitkara University, Punjab, achieved remarkable rankings in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Ranking 2023. The university has been ranked among the Top 100 in various categories, showcasing its commitment to excellence in higher education.

Chitkara University secured an impressive position in the overall NIRF Ranking, placing in the 101–150 band. This recognition signifies the university’s continuous efforts to provide quality education and nurture holistic development among its students.

In addition, Chitkara University has excelled in the field of innovation, securing a position in the 11–50 band in the overall Innovation category. This ranking includes all Government, Private, Deemed, and Institutions of National Importance listed in the NIRF Innovation Ranking (formerly known as the ARIIA Ranking). It showcases the university’s dedication to fostering a culture of innovation and research.

Furthermore, Chitkara University achieved noteworthy rankings in specific disciplines. The university secured the 16th rank in Pharmacy, the 30th rank in the Architecture category, the 64th rank in the Management category, and the 92nd rank in the Engineering category. These achievements highlight the university’s expertise and excellence in various fields of study.

The NIRF Ranking, launched by the Hon’ble Minister for Education in 2015, serves as a comprehensive assessment of educational institutions across India. The framework evaluates institutes based on five key parameters: teaching-learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception.

Chitkara University showcased exceptional performance in the esteemed Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2023. The university achieved remarkable rankings across various Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) categories, reaffirming its commitment to sustainability and global excellence.

In the overall ranking, Chitkara University secured an impressive 5th position in India and falls within the 301–400 band globally, further solidifying its position as a leading institution dedicated to social impact.

Among the individual SDGs, Chitkara University has achieved noteworthy rankings. In SDG-07 (Affordable and Clean Energy), the university has secured the 3rd position in India and an impressive 40th position globally. Similarly, in SDG-11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), the university ranks 3rd in India and falls within the 301–400 band globally. In the SDG-12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) category, the university is ranked 4th in India and falls within the 201-300 band globally. Additionally, in SDG-16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions), the university holds the 8th position in India and is placed in the 800+ band internationally. Furthermore, in SDG-09 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), Chitkara University achieves the 9th position in India and falls within the 201-300 band globally.
